My Story
Almost my entire life, I was always the “big person.” People would think I was joking or lying whenever I told them I was born weighing less than a pound, but it was actually true. Over time, I became super comfortable with my weight and started eating just to eat, even when I wasn’t hungry. The heaviest I got was 330 lbs. I started having health issues, and almost every doctor’s appointment came with bad news. I was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure. One weekend, my family and I went to an amusement park, and I couldn’t get on most of the rides because my stomach was too big. After that day, I told myself, “I have to change. I have to start getting active in the gym.”
Well… that didn’t happen right away. To be honest, I was just too lazy to get started.
During COVID lockdown, I was bored at home one day and randomly started doing push-ups. When I finished, I felt something in my chest — not physically, but mentally. The next day, I went to a gym 35 minutes from my house because it was brand new, and honestly, the gym was amazing. I signed up and got a training membership that same day.At first, I told myself, “Let me try this for a month and see if I like it.” But after only three weeks of training and consistently going to the gym, I started seeing my body change. My habits became different, and I developed this craving to go to the gym every single day. It felt like all I needed was to see results.
I started going to the gym 6–7 days a week at all different hours of the day, spending over 2 hours there each session. The results kept getting better and better. Doctor appointments went from bad news to amazing progress. My life was truly starting to change.
I fell in love with fitness.
It went from “I have to” to “I want to.” At that point, I wanted to take my training to the next level. During my journey, I became close friends with someone who was once just a work friend — now my amazing best friend, Carla. She had started her own fitness journey and was training with a coach who was exactly what I was looking for to help take my journey to the next level, so I joined too.
That’s when things really started getting fun.Working out with my best friend made the journey even better. Later, I decided I wanted to level up again, so I joined a powerlifting gym — and let me just say, THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER.
In 2023, I became a powerlifter, Fast forward to today, I’ve been on my journey for 6 years, with 4 of those years dedicated to powerlifting. Now, I’m starting my very own coaching business, and I’m so excited to see what’s next for both myself and Strive Fitness.
